Welcome! Thank you for your interest in this research project.
Please note: To participate you must have a VR headset that is connected to the internet.
The purpose of this study is to examine the design and integration of sound in an online Virtual Reality Learning Environment (VRLE). You will firstly be asked to complete an online questionnaire, which will include demographic questions such as age, gender, and previous VR experience. Following this, you will enter VR and be placed within the VR room to allow you time to adjust to VR. Once you are comfortable to proceed, you will begin the VRLE experience. You will experience the VRLE under two different sound conditions and you will be asked to perform a memory task within each. Once finished, you will be asked to complete a short set of questions, outlining your preferences, within the VRLE.
Participation in this study is completely voluntary. There is no obligation to participate, and should you choose to do so, you can withdraw from the study during or after the VR experience. Should you decide to withdraw during the VR experience, you can exit the session immediately by pressing the exit button on the hand controller. All information you provide will be confidential and your anonymity will be protected throughout the study. You will be provided with a unique participant ID which will be known only to you and to the research team. You can use this ID to withdraw from the study at any stage up to two weeks after participation in the study.
All data is collected digitally, and anonymised at source. This anonymous data will be stored on a secure University College Cork staff OneDrive for a minimum of ten years. The information you provide will be used to contribute to research for a doctoral degree, and may form part of publications and/or conference presentations.
